Free maker tool
A buyer decides whether to click from a thumbnail a few centimeters wide, and most photo problems are visible at that size.
Nothing is uploaded. It runs in your browser, so your files never leave your machine — and it stays free.
Part of the Maker Toolkit: twenty-three tools that share one shop profile and one product list, so what you set up here is already known everywhere else.
Maker Toolkit v1.0 · August 2026
How it works
It reads each listing photo against Etsy’s own guidance on size, shape and file type, then checks light, focus, color and how much room the product takes up. It shows how your first photo crops in Etsy’s square, portrait and landscape thumbnails, and saves Etsy-ready copies. Every photo stays on your computer.
Why it is built this way
Questions
Etsy recommends at least 2000 px on both width and height, and says the first photo needs at least 635 px on each side or the listing can show up lower in search. A phone photo at 4032 x 3024 is plenty. The checker saves copies at 2000 px on the short side and never upscales a smaller photo, because that adds pixels, not detail.
Landscape or square, per Etsy, and the rest of the gallery takes its shape from it. Etsy crops the first photo into square, portrait and landscape thumbnails without publishing the ratios. In October 2026, etsy.com search served 4:5 portrait and roughly 5:4 landscape thumbnails, so leave room around the product and fine-tune with Adjust Thumbnail.
Up to 20 photos and 2 videos of 5 to 15 seconds each. The checker counts your slots and gives a short shot list to fill them: a scale shot, a detail close-up, the product in use, a personalization example, and the back or packaging.
It is a PNG with transparency. Etsy displays transparent areas as black. Etsy also accepts only JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG and HEIC, so a WebP will not go up. The checker flags both and saves sRGB JPEG copies on white, kept under the 1 MB that Etsy says uploads reliably on a slow connection.
Next in the workflow
These are not a list of everything. They are the tools this one hands off to, and they already know what you did here.
Free, and staying free
Eighteen of the twenty-three tools are free for good. If you want the generators that design the product, and the planner that tells you whether the batch fits your week, that is what the Hub is for.
